Daisy Dog Squad

The Headteacher (Dr Shaw) brings her pet dog, Daisy (born March 2018) into school most days.Parents can sign their children up, to be part of the 'Daisy Dog Squad', who come and read to Daisy and Dr Shaw - they sit in an area by the photocopier which is just outside Dr Shaw's office.

• Daisy stays in a special 'pen' in the headteacher's office. when she is in school, a special sign is placed on the office door, so that all visitors know to 'knock and wait', to be sure that Daisy is not moving around the office.
• Daisy does not go out with the children at break/lunch times, and uses the public land adjacent to the school driveway for any toileting.
• No person (child or adult) are ever forced to be with Daisy. Care and attention is always given when Daisy is at Branston Juniors, to ensure the safety of the children and of the dog.
• Careful thought has been given to the location used, so as to avoid any upset to children who may not wish to work with her, or those who may have an allergy. When you complete the 'Pupil record' sheet for your child, you are able to indicate if your child has a fur allergy, therefore the school will be aware of this. If your child has a fear of dogs (or similar); feel free to contact the school, so that we are made aware and can act accordingly. 

Your child can be part of the 'Daisy Dog Squad' by completing the parental consent form which is sent out / renewed every academic year, so that we can be sure there are no changes in health and safety aspects such as allergies etc. The 'reading' usually takes place in an afternoon session and is only for a few mintues per child. Daisy stays on her lead and Mrs Shaw remains with her at all times.
